Formerly called the Office for Disability Services, the Office for Accessible Education (OAE) helps to facilitate access to academic courses and university programs and activities for students. OAE is reframing its role and becoming a model of universal design and the social response to disability. We are leading the university to consider "what must be done" rather than "what can be done" and shifting the disability paradigm from the medical model to the social model of disability.

Although our core mission is to promote inclusion and equal access, the medical model of disability actually leads to a separate but equal mentality when students with disabilities must take tests in a different location than their classmates, use a special entrance to a building or use a highly specialized support system to overcome their limitations.
