Starting Strong: College & Community Course for First-Generation Students

College and Community is a 1-credit course designed to assist with your process of transitioning to Loyola University New Orleans successfully. This course aims to equip you with the necessary tools, resources, and guidance to navigate your college journey to fit your vision of success. The course is taught by highly committed staff and faculty members of the Loyola community with a passion for cultivating an environment that allows you to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. You and your instructor will collaborate to unpack the "hidden curriculum" of college, focusing on your vision of success! By the end of the course, you will walk away with extensive knowledge of navigating college and boost your GPA from right at the start of your academic journey here at Loyola University New Orleans!

For Fall 2023, we are offering two sections of this course specifically designed for First-Generation college students:

  • An In-Person, full semester class on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. (for Music and Media students only).
  • An Online, asynchronous (do it at your own pace), 8-week course (open for ALL students!)

To request enrollment in any of the two, please email Professor Paul Chu at pchu@loyno.edu.
