Meet the TRIO SSS Peer Mentors!
Mariam Arfan
Mariam Arfan serves as a Peer Mentor for TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), providing guidance and support to students navigating their academic journeys. As a junior at Loyola University New Orleans, she is pursuing a double major in Business Analytics and Business Management and is passionate about student success, leadership, and mentorship.
With a deep appreciation for TRIO's impact on her college experience, Mariam is committed to giving back by helping students overcome challenges and achieve their goals. She strives to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where students feel empowered to succeed.
Beyond TRIO, Mariam is actively involved in multiple student organizations on campus. Mariam’s background includes leadership roles in student organizations, event coordination, and community engagement. She is dedicated to assisting students with academic planning, personal development, and navigating college life.
In her free time, Mariam enjoys reading, painting, engaging with student organizations, and participating actively in the Loyola community.
Renee Anderson
Renee Anderson serves as a Peer Mentor for TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) at Loyola University New Orleans. She is a junior majoring in Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity and competes as a thrower on Loyola’s Track & Field team. As a first-generation college student, Renee has embraced the challenges of balancing a rigorous academic program with the demands of athletics, leadership, and mentorship.
Renee’s experience as a TRIO student has been an important part of her success, providing her with resources, encouragement, and a strong support system. Now, as a Peer Mentor, she is committed to giving back by helping other students feel prepared, supported, and motivated in their own journeys. She works with her peers on academic strategies, campus engagement, and personal growth, always striving to create a welcoming environment where students know they belong.
Beyond her role in TRIO, Renee is active in academics, athletics, and leadership on campus. She has been recognized as a Dean’s List Scholar, TRIO Scholar, and NAIA Scholar Athlete, and was honored as TRIO’s Most Involved Scholar of the Year. She has also completed programming projects in C++, including designing an interactive Loyola trivia game and creating a fitness program that customized workouts based on user input, blending her interests in technology and problem-solving.
In her free time, Renee enjoys weightlifting, traveling and exploring new sceneries, and spending quality time with loved ones.

TRIO Student Support Services is a nationally-funded program developed by the U.S. Department of Education in 1968. Since its founding, TRIO has expanded substantially, providing eligible students with support services to help them succeed in all aspects of their college experience.
